About the Village of Crooksville

Established in 1874 by the U.S. Postal Service at the request of founders Jacob Reed and his partner Joseph Crooks, Crooksville has continued to thrive for the past 126 years. Located off State Rt. 93 in Perry County, the Village has worked diligently over the years to keep the environment friendly for families and business. Their efforts have been rewarded with the 2001 Governor’s Award for Partnership in the Arts, and Tree City Status since 1996.

Sometime earlier between 1820 and 1825, Jacob Reed, a young and prosperous man from the East struck out looking for a company in which to invest his money and double his fortune. On the way he met his bride, Lydia, and eventually the two of them found the heavily timbered land that is now Crooksville.

If you feel your water bill is too high and you have not increased your day to day consumption, you may have a leak. Two of the most common leaks are associated with faucets and toilets.

If your toilet leaks, you may be wasting enough water to keep a small creek flowing. Don’t assume that your toilet doesn’t leak because you can’t hear it. A toilet has to leak 250 gallons a day before it can be heard. A quick check can be made by completing the following steps:

A slow drip from a faucet can waste 15 gallons of water per day. That may seem like a small number, but it can make a significant difference on your bill.
A 1/32″ leak dripping from a faucet wastes 25 gallons in a 24 hour period.
A 1/16″ stream from a faucet wastes 100 gallons in a 24 hour period.
A 1/8″ stream from a faucet wastes 400 gallons in a 24 hour period.
Not only do you want to check your inside faucets, but the outside faucets also. Outside faucet leaks often go undetected because the water they waste soaks into the ground.

Stormwater Utility

The Village has developed a Stormwater Utility (SWU) program to create a dedicated fund for the repair, replacement, maintenance, equipment, and administration required to operate a stormwater management system. The SWU charges are not established as a tax on the residents of the Village of Crooksville; these charges are established as a utility usage fee, similar to a water or sewer fee.
